Umar Tanimu Umar is a Public Health Scientist with vast experience in the areas of clinical diagnosis, health system improvement, quality assurance and general management of the healthcare system. He has also played a role as Laboratory Focal Person for HIV activities under the support of the Implementing Partners Friends for Global Health in Nigeria (FGHI), Family Health International (FHI) and Centre for Integrated Health Program (CIHP) which provide technical and logistic support to health facilities.

He chaired various committees on Quality Assessment/Quality Improvement and Infection Control. He also was a laboratory focal person of the PMTCT (Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission) committee in Gombe State. Umar Tanimu Umar worked as Medical Laboratory Scientist in General Hospital Bajoga and Head of Diagnosis in General Hospital Dukku and Infectious Diseases Hospital Zambuk, all in Gombe State. He worked at the Staff Clinic of Nigerian Ports Authority, Apapa-Lagos. In all these facilities he had the task of conducting routine laboratory analysis, supervision of interns, Medical laboratory Technicians and Medical laboratory assistants as well as students under training.

He is an associate of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (AMLSCN) with specialty in Clinical Chemistry from the National Veterinary and Medical Laboratory College Vom, a holder of BSc in Biochemistry from University of Maiduguri and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Maryam Abacha American University, Maradi. He is a fellow (cohort F) of the PEPFAR Health Professional Fellowship Program as organised by the Management Sciences for Health (MSH).

Umar Tanimu Umar is a Board Member, Gombe State Football Association, the President of Science Toro Old Boys Association and a former President of Gombawa Forum as well as that of Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Gombe State Branch.
