On Thursday 18th March 2021 history was made in Gombe State with the official launching of Basic Healthcare Provision Fund. With the launching of this programme, Gombe State has now joined the list of states in the country where the poor and vulnerable will access affordable and quality healthcare without suffering financial hardship linked to paying for the services.

The launching was made by His Excellency, the Governor of Gombe State, ably represented by his Deputy, His Excellency, Dr Manasseh Daniel Jatau, at Daban-Fulani Primary HealthCare Centre, Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State.

In his welcome address the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru noted that the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund has been established to ensure all Nigerians particularly the poor and vulnerable have access to the basic minimum package of health services.

The Commissioner appreciated the Governor for fulfilling his campaign promise of ensuring the availability of at least 1 fully functional PHC Centre in each and every ward of the state. This dream has actually been realised with the PHC revitalization reform of the Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya administration.

Reading the address of His Excellency, the Governor, the Deputy Governor thanked God almighty for the opportunity to be able to serve and fulfill their campaign promise by providing funds for the poor and vulnerable to access quality and efficient healthcare. He noted that the APC-led administration approach to reforming the health sector is a holistic one, culminating in the establishment of two new agencies - Hospitals Management Board and the Contributory Healthcare Management Agency.

The Deputy Governor presented enrolment ID cards to some of the enrolled beneficiaries.

The colourful event in Daban-Fulani witnessed the assemblage of top government officials, key stakeholders and traditional leaders in the state.
