The Governing Board of Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Board got inaugurated ton the 11^th of February, 2021, at the Conference Hall of the State Ministry of Health. The Chairman of the Board and former Commissioner of Health, Dr Mohammed Isa Umar inaugurated the Board on behalf of His Excellency, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Governor of Gombe State.

 

While inaugurating the Board, Dr Isa Umar remarked that the Government of Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has placed high premium in health delivery and is passionate about reducing out of pockets expenditure.

 

The Board Chairman concluded by affirming that all the Board members have earned the confidence of the Governor and that the assignment of the board is very special in terms of uplifting health services in the state.

 

Highlights of the meeting include brief review of the law establishing the agency, objectives and functions of the board, the contributory health fund and the scheme, as presented by the Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Gombe State Ministry of Health and GoHealth board member, Alhaji Abdu Usman. He gave the historic perspective on the annals of health insurance in Nigeria and explained that as part of the health sector development agenda of the new administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Government sponsored a bill “the Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency Law, 2019” which was signed into law by His Excellency on 31st December 2019. He also explained the objectives of setting up the agency and the function of each stakeholder involved in the scheme.
